Augustine of Hippo (354-430)
A philosopher, teacher, theologian, and bishop who argued that everything in the universe was created simultaneously by God, not in seven calendar days. He rejected a literal interpretation of Genesis, arguing that the six day structure in Genesis carried a spiritual rather than a physical meaning.
